Gunmen have reportedly abducted 10 individuals from Ahun and Oro-Ago communities in Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State. The attacks occurred early Wednesday morning, with six people seized in Ahun and four in Oro-Ago and Oyate combined.
A victim’s wife revealed that her husband, Clement Emmanuel, a sawmill operator, and his apprentice, Solomon, were kidnapped while working in the farm in Ahun. Another source disclosed that two others, Adewole and Adebayo, were taken while preparing to burn felled trees for charcoal production.
Mrs Emmanuel told Channels Television that the kidnappers have contacted her, demanding ₦10 million ransom for two of the victims. She pleaded, “Please help me, sir. How will I raise the ₦10 million they are asking for my husband?”
The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, said he had not been fully briefed on the incident but confirmed that security forces carried out a joint intelligence-led operation in Oro-Ago. The operation followed intercepted communications revealing that a suspected kidnapping syndicate was planning to service and refit motorcycles for criminal activity.
The operation led to the arrest of ten suspects, including a mechanic and a logistics aide, and the recovery of ten Bajaj Boxer motorcycles, reportedly used in kidnapping and banditry.
Separately, the State Police Command also arrested individuals linked to the kidnapping of construction workers and engineers along Owu Falls Road in the same LGA. Using digital tracking from a victim’s stolen phone, operatives were able to locate and apprehend the suspects.
CP Ojo also announced the arrest of a 23-year-old female suspect, Awawu Maliki Bodo, in possession of a revolver and three live cartridges. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate.
