The Ondo State Police Command has arrested four suspected kidnappers linked to an attack in Ilu-Abo community, Akure North Local Government Area, which led to the death of a resident and the abduction of another.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence that they were staying in a hotel located behind Ado Garage in Akure.
According to the statement, operatives of the command’s tactical units, working alongside the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), swiftly launched an operation that led to the arrest of the suspects.
The suspects were identified as Abdullahi Ismaila (20), Babanyara Japi (25), Babuga Abubakar (25), and Adama Usman (15).
Police said the suspects were connected to the attack in Ilu-Abo during which a male resident, John Odufuwa, was killed while Tomilola Oladeinde was abducted.
During the operation, security operatives reportedly recovered ₦1.4 million, suspected to be ransom money obtained from kidnapping activities.
Jimoh explained that the money has been taken into police custody as evidence.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly confessed to participating in the attack and other criminal activities in the area. They are believed to be members of a criminal gang operating around Eleyowo, Ilu-Abo, and Ogbese.
The police spokesperson also disclosed that the abducted victim, Tomilola Oladeinde, has identified the suspects.
He added that investigations are ongoing while efforts are being intensified to track down other members of the gang.
The command reaffirmed its determination to tackle kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and other violent crimes across the state.
Jimoh urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible information that could help prevent crime and arrest offenders. He also advised victims of criminal incidents to cooperate with authorities during investigations, noting that such cooperation would aid the police in their fight against crime in the state.
