The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the appointment of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). He takes over from Benjamin Hundeyin, the outgoing spokesperson.
The announcement was made in a statement on Sunday by Hundeyin from the Force Headquarters in Abuja. The statement highlighted Placid’s extensive experience in police administration, operations, intelligence, training, and international peacekeeping.
Born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Placid hails from Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom LGA. He holds a BSc in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo, an MA in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos, and a Law degree (LLB) from the National Open University of Nigeria.
Placid joined the NPF as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1996 and was commissioned in August 1998. He has undergone professional and international training, including United Nations Peace Operations Specialized Training, UNITAR Senior Leadership and Peacebuilding course in Kenya, and certifications in human rights, gender awareness, and international humanitarian law.

He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, a Commonwealth Human Rights Trainer, and a trainer with the International Committee of the Red Cross on International Humanitarian Law. Placid also graduated from the Senior Executive Course 47 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies and was inducted as a Member of the National Institute (mni) in December 2025.
Away from work, DCP Placid enjoys music, football, basketball, table tennis, and badminton. He is married with children.
