Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully rescued two kidnapped bank employees in Gborgbor Village, Wukari Local Government Area, Taraba State.
The victims, identified as Marwan Abubakar (40) and Leng’en Cakop (37), both staff of Unity Bank, were abducted in Zaki-Biam, Ukum Local Government Area, Benue State.
According to Lt. Ahmad Zubairu, acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, the rescue was conducted after actionable intelligence pinpointed the location of the kidnappers and their captives. “Troops acted swiftly on the intelligence, conducting a thorough search and rescue mission to locate the terrorists and safely recover the victims,” he said in a statement released on Sunday.
Initially, the operation in Gborgbor Village yielded no results. However, follow-up intelligence confirmed that the kidnappers and victims remained nearby. Reinforcements led by the Sub-Sector Commander extended the search to surrounding settlements, including Tse Anaka, applying sustained pressure on the criminals.
The kidnappers eventually abandoned their captives, allowing the troops to safely recover them. A motorcycle suspected to have been used by the kidnappers was also seized along the escape route.
Maj. Gen. Moses Gara, Force Commander of OPWS, commended the troops for their professionalism and quick response, emphasizing that intelligence-led operations are key to tackling kidnappings and terrorist threats.
He reassured residents of Taraba and neighboring states of the Joint Task Force’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding lives and properties, urging citizens to provide credible information to help security agencies dismantle criminal networks.
