Two Feared Dead as Chobo, Bachaman Communities Clash Again in Adamawa

At least two people are feared dead following renewed violence between residents of the Chobo and Bachaman communities in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The latest clash reportedly occurred late Saturday night, according to the spokesman of the Adamawa State Police Command, Suleiman Nguroje, who confirmed the incident on Sunday.

Nguroje explained that the crisis began when suspected youths from the Chobo community allegedly stormed Lamurde town and began shooting into the air. The action reportedly prompted Bachaman youths to mobilise in response, leading to a confrontation between the two groups.

Police authorities said security operatives have been deployed to the area to restore calm and prevent further violence.

“We received information that suspected Chobo youths invaded Lamurde town and fired sporadically, which led Bachaman youths to mobilise and confront them,” Nguroje said.

He added that the police were still gathering details about the incident and that confirmed casualty figures would be released once investigations are completed.

Long-Standing Land Dispute

The clash is the latest development in a long-running land dispute between the two communities. Reports indicate that within the past six months, more than 30 people—many of them women—have died in similar violent incidents linked to the conflict.

Last year, Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of Adamawa State, hosted leaders of the warring communities at the Government House in Yola in an attempt to broker peace.

However, violence reportedly resumed just three days after the peace agreement, leaving more than 18 people dead.

The state government had recently lifted a curfew imposed in Lamurde after authorities believed the situation had stabilised.

Local sources said the two victims in the latest incident were allegedly attacked and killed in the early hours of Sunday while heading to church.

As of the time of filing this report, the Adamawa State Government had not released an official statement regarding the renewed clashes.
