The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has reaffirmed his commitment to tackling insecurity and restoring peace across the state’s troubled communities. The governor made the declaration on Monday while receiving a briefing on the deployment of security personnel to Kwande Local Government Area and other hotspots affected by criminal activities.
Kwande LGA has recently become a flashpoint for attacks, with reports of multiple casualties among residents and security operatives. The most recent violence occurred in Nyihemba and Anwase Abande communities, where scores of residents were reportedly killed last Thursday, escalating fears of a worsening security crisis.
In a statement issued by his Technical Adviser on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, Solomon Iorpev, Governor Alia commended security agencies for their continued efforts in restoring calm. He assured the public that his administration would adopt a decisive stance against perpetrators of violence.
“Perpetrators of insecurity must be brought to justice. This latest deployment marks the beginning of a clampdown on criminal elements,” Alia stated. He emphasised that bandits and other criminal actors attempting to disrupt peace would be relentlessly pursued and prosecuted.
The governor also vowed to protect residents, their farms, and their communities, asserting that his administration would not be intimidated by the threats or actions of those responsible for the attacks. “Let this be a warning to all perpetrators of insecurity: Governor Alia will not be deterred. I will crush insecurity in Benue State,” he declared.
The move comes after another violent incident in Abaji Town, Katsina-Ala LGA, where one person, Aondohemba Kavee, 43, was killed, and two others, Orgase Nyikya and a passerby, Tyolumum Tsenongu, were injured when armed bandits attacked a Civil Protection Guard checkpoint on March 4. Security analysts have warned that such incidents underscore the urgent need for reinforced measures to secure the state.
Governor Alia’s declaration signals a renewed commitment to strengthening security operations, prosecuting offenders, and safeguarding citizens, emphasizing that no threat will be allowed to undermine peace and stability in Benue State.
