Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from the Enugu Zonal Directorate have arrested Ifeanyi Mba over an alleged ₦10 million land fraud in Enugu State.
The anti-graft agency disclosed the arrest in a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday.
How the Alleged Fraud Happened
According to the EFCC, the suspect was arrested after a petitioner accused him of collecting ₦10 million for a plot of land located at Plot 677, Owo/Premier Layout in Ogui Nike community.
However, the buyer later discovered that the land was already being developed by other individuals.
When the petitioner confronted the suspect, he was allegedly told that the land in question belonged to the government, raising doubts about the legitimacy of the transaction.
The EFCC said the victim made several attempts to recover his money, but the suspect reportedly cut off communication and became unreachable.
Findings From Preliminary Investigation
The commission stated that early investigations revealed that no official layout named “Plot 677 Owo/Premier” exists within government-acquired areas.
Authorities also clarified that Owo Layout and Premier Layout are separate areas, suggesting the suspect may have misrepresented the property.
Next Steps
The EFCC confirmed that the suspect will be charged to court once investigations are completed.
Previous EFCC Action in Enugu
The arrest adds to other ongoing anti-corruption efforts by the Enugu Zonal Directorate. Earlier this year, the commission facilitated the recovery of ₦1.28 billion linked to alleged diversion of funds meant for the Smart Green Schools project in the state.
