IGP Tunji Disu flanked by the newly promoted DIGs
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday formally decorated the newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs), calling on them to deepen intelligence-led policing, enhance inter-agency collaboration, and strengthen operational coordination across commands.
During the ceremony, the IGP stressed that the promotion places the officers in key leadership positions within the Nigeria Police Force and comes with significant responsibilities. “Your leadership must inspire confidence within the Force and trust among the citizens we are sworn to protect,” he said, urging the DIGs to lead with discipline, fairness, transparency, and service.
The officers decorated include Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and Umar Shehu Nadada, while Fayoade Adegoke had been decorated a week earlier.
Disu noted that promotion to DIG represents one of the highest levels of professional trust in the Force and requires integrity, courage, and a commitment to justice. The new leaders are expected to provide institutional direction, strengthen internal discipline, and drive reforms aimed at repositioning the police for modern challenges.
Highlighting evolving security threats—including organised crime, cyber-enabled offences, and violent networks—the IGP urged the DIGs to remain strategic and forward-looking, ensuring policing strategies respond effectively to current and future security challenges.
He also commended the Police Service Commission for maintaining transparency in the promotion process and expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting efforts to enhance the operational capacity of the police.
In closing, Disu congratulated the newly promoted DIGs, expressing confidence that they would justify the trust reposed in them and contribute to improving the professionalism and effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.
