The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 26-year-old woman, Precious Mogaji, in Ibadan, with investigations already underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a statement released on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the case was reported by a concerned resident who discovered the victim’s lifeless body outside the room of her boyfriend.
According to the police, the victim was found at the entrance of the room belonging to Quadri Mohammed, 29, who is currently on the run.
Ayanlade clarified that the incident happened in the Oguntula area of Ojoo, Ibadan, and not in Akobo as earlier reported by some media outlets.
Preliminary findings show that the police were alerted to the situation around 12:05 a.m. by a good Samaritan who noticed the victim lying motionless near the suspect’s room.
Upon receiving the report, officers from the Ojoo Police Division were immediately dispatched to the scene. When they arrived, they discovered the victim’s body lying at the doorway of the suspect’s residence.
The police said the scene was properly documented and examined according to standard investigative procedures. Photographs were also taken as part of the investigation.
After the preliminary examination, the body was moved to a hospital and deposited in the morgue for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the victim’s boyfriend, Quadri Mohammed, had fled the area and is currently being sought by the police.
The command said efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the suspect.
Police authorities also appealed to members of the public who may have useful information to report to the nearest police station or contact the Oyo State Police Command.
The command further urged the public to ignore misleading reports circulating on social media and assured that updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
