Security agencies in Ondo State have arrested 99 suspects during a coordinated raid targeting criminal activities across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement released on Monday in Akure.
According to him, the operation involved several security agencies, including the Ondo State Police Command, the 32 Brigade Artillery of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps.
Jimoh explained that the operation was intelligence-driven and focused on areas identified as criminal hideouts, black spots, and flashpoints known for illegal activities in different parts of the state.
The joint raid led to the arrest of 99 suspects allegedly linked to crimes such as armed robbery, burglary, theft, cultism, and other offences.
During the operation, security operatives also recovered several items suspected to have been used for criminal acts, including properties believed to have been stolen.
He added that the suspects are currently being screened and profiled, while those found guilty of criminal involvement will be charged to court.
Police Commend Security Collaboration
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, praised the participating agencies for their professionalism and cooperation during the operation.
According to him, effective collaboration among security forces remains essential in tackling crime and ensuring safety across the state.
The commissioner also reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to intelligence-based policing and joint security operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks.
Lawal warned criminal elements to stay away from the state, stressing that Ondo will not be a safe haven for criminals.
He added that security agencies will continue to intensify efforts to identify, track, and apprehend offenders wherever they may be hiding.
Call for Public Support
The police also urged residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that can aid crime-fighting efforts.
According to Jimoh, community cooperation remains crucial in maintaining peace and security in the state.
He assured the public that the command would continue to work tirelessly to ensure that criminals are brought to justice.
The development comes shortly after police arrested four suspected kidnappers linked to a violent attack along Liberty Avenue in Ilu-Abo, where a resident, John Ofuduwa, was killed and a woman, Oladeinde Tomilola, was abducted before later regaining her freedom.
