The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has secured the conviction of 20 traffic offenders during a mobile court session held at its Ogun State Sector Command in Abeokuta.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Tuesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Odunsi Afolabi.
According to the statement, the mobile court proceedings were presided over by Chief Magistrate O.T. Odubanjo and involved offenders arrested during special enforcement operations conducted by FRSC personnel across different operational corridors in the state.
At the conclusion of the session, 21 offenders were arraigned before the court, out of which 20 were convicted while one person was discharged.
The command revealed that the offenders were charged with 65 traffic violations in total, although none of them received a prison sentence.
The offences prosecuted included seatbelt violations, speed limit device violations, driver’s licence offences, overloading, tyre violations, vehicle licence offences, and number plate violations, among other traffic-related offences.
Speaking on the exercise, the Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, said the initiative was aimed at ensuring compliance with traffic regulations and reducing road accidents and fatalities in the state.
He emphasised that enforcement operations and mobile court sittings are part of the corps’ strategy to promote safer driving practices among motorists.
The statement also noted that the mobile court session was conducted peacefully, with armed security personnel present to ensure order and smooth proceedings.
