The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held an emergency meeting on Tuesday at the lodge of Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, following the recent Court of Appeal ruling affecting the party’s leadership dispute.
The meeting was chaired by former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, and attended by several top party stakeholders. Among those present were Tanimu Turaki, Umar Damagum, former PDP Deputy National Chairman Bode George, former Minister of Information Jerry Gana, and former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, alongside other prominent members of the party.
Speaking at the meeting, Wabara described Monday’s Court of Appeal judgment as an opportunity for the party to rebuild and start afresh, suggesting that the ruling could open a new chapter for the PDP.
Earlier in the day, the caretaker committee led by Tanimu Turaki addressed journalists, saying the court’s decision validated their leadership of the party.
The committee also reaffirmed its plan to proceed with preparations for the PDP national convention scheduled later this month.
However, it was earlier reported that the Court of Appeal on Monday upheld the ruling of a Federal High Court that restrained the party from conducting its national convention.
The appellate court also dismissed an appeal filed by the Turaki-led faction, which had laid claim to the party’s leadership following the Ibadan convention held last year, where members of the National Working Committee (NWC) were elected.
Reacting to the judgment, the Turaki faction disclosed that its legal team would immediately approach the Supreme Court to challenge the decision.
