Kano Governor dismisses Head of Service

The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has relieved the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, of his position with immediate effect.

The development was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa.

According to the statement, the decision forms part of the administration’s efforts to restructure and strengthen the state civil service to promote efficiency, discipline and improved service delivery across government institutions.

The statement explained that the move is aimed at repositioning the public service to function more effectively and meet the expectations of the people.

Governor Yusuf also expressed appreciation to the outgoing Head of Service for his dedication and contributions to the service of Kano State during his tenure.

He wished Musa success in his future endeavours and prayed for continued progress in his personal and professional life.

Following the development, the governor directed that Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, the Permanent Secretary for Administration and General Services at the Cabinet Office, should take over the role in an acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive Head of Service.

The governor further instructed the outgoing Head of Service to hand over the affairs of the office to the acting Head of Service on or before Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

The decision comes amid recent political realignments in Kano State, following Governor Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Observers say the political shift has triggered administrative adjustments and repositioning among political appointees and senior government officials, as the administration aligns with the new party structure while implementing reforms within the state civil service.
