Two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service have been taken into custody following a shooting incident that allegedly resulted in the death of a driver in the Dada Estate area of Osogbo on Sunday morning.
The development was confirmed by the Osun State Police Command in a statement issued on March 15, 2026, by its spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi.
According to the police, the two suspects, identified as Kolawole Suuti and Danjuma Samuel, were reportedly chasing vehicles believed to be “tokunbo” (foreign-used) cars when the incident occurred.
Security operatives were said to have quickly moved to the scene after receiving a report of the incident, leading to the arrest of the two customs officers.
During the pursuit, the driver of an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla—one of the vehicles allegedly involved—was reportedly shot by the officers.
The victim was later pronounced dead by a doctor at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where his body has been deposited in the morgue. His identity had not been confirmed at the time this report was filed.
Police also disclosed that several items were recovered at the scene, including a Beretta pistol with breech number 125024, eleven rounds of 9mm live ammunition, one expanded 9mm shell, a white Toyota Corolla with Lagos registration number AAA 400 GQ, and an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla bearing registration number GFQ 0982 (Texas).
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Gotan, has directed that a comprehensive investigation be carried out to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
The police command assured residents that anyone found culpable will be made to face the full weight of the law, while also appealing to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
