Adeleke Accuses APC of Plotting to Rig Osun Governorship Election

The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has again accused the opposition All Progressives Congress of allegedly planning to manipulate the forthcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15 through the use of federal power.

Adeleke made the allegation while addressing leaders and ward officials of the enlarged Accord across the 332 wards in Osun State.

The governor criticised the Osun APC for allegedly dragging the name of President Bola Tinubu into political controversies by claiming that federal institutions would be deployed to influence the outcome of the election.

He stressed that federal authority should be used to promote good governance rather than interfere in elections.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke said the President was focused on delivering governance and national development rather than election manipulation.

“The President is using federal power to deliver on good governance, such as the ongoing reconstruction of the Ibadan–Ilesa road, student loan programmes, and the commitment to establishing state police,” the statement said.

Adeleke further stated that neither the President nor top officials of the Federal Government support any alleged threats by the Osun APC to disrupt the upcoming governorship election.

He urged the party to stop tarnishing the image of the President and the Federal Government with claims of planned electoral interference.

According to him, Osun residents are committed to free, fair and credible elections, insisting that only the votes of the people should determine who governs the state.

“Our people want their votes to decide who wins and who governs them. Our duty as candidates is to present our manifestos and seek their support,” Adeleke said.

He added that those who boast about rigging elections in a democracy are nothing but “electoral bandits.”
