Fanigba Francis Fadahunsi, Senator Representing Osun East Senatorial District
Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, has strongly criticised an All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant, Thomas Ogungbangbe, over comments he allegedly made during a recent political rally.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Omole Oluwasegun Omo-Osodi, the senator described Ogungbangbe’s remarks as misleading and unfounded. The controversy stems from a rally held in Ijebu-Jesa, where the APC aspirant reportedly referred to himself as the “incoming Senator” for Osun East.
According to the statement, Ogungbangbe made the declaration during a women leaders’ rally, allegedly stating in Yoruba, “Emi ni incoming Senator, Babawa Fadahunsi ti gbelemi lọwọ,” which translates to, “Senator Fadahunsi has handed over to me.”
Reacting to the claim, Senator Fadahunsi’s camp dismissed the statement as false and described it as a desperate attempt to gain political relevance. The statement emphasized that there has never been any meeting or agreement between the senator and Ogungbangbe regarding any form of endorsement or succession plan.
The lawmaker further demanded that the APC aspirant publicly retract the statement and apologise for what he termed the misuse of his name for “cheap popularity.”
Reaffirming his political position, the statement made it clear that Senator Fadahunsi remains in the race for re-election and is confident of returning to the National Assembly to continue representing the people of Osun East.
The development adds to the growing political tension in the district as preparations gradually build up toward the next election cycle.
