The Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State has arrested a 21-year-old suspect, Alabi Anthony, over the alleged rape and murder of a woman identified as Olaseni Veronica in Iboropa community, located in Akoko North-East Local Government Area.
According to police authorities, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim last week, after which he reportedly strangled her to death.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that the arrest was made following credible intelligence. Investigators were able to trace the victim’s missing mobile phone, which eventually led them to the suspect.
Jimoh stated that the suspect has confessed to committing the crime, admitting to having sexual relations with the victim before killing her. He strongly condemned the act, describing it as cruel and inhumane, while assuring the public that justice would be pursued.
The case has since been transferred to the state police headquarters in Akure for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The police also urged members of the public to promptly report any suspicious activities and avoid jumping to conclusions in cases involving sudden or unnatural deaths, emphasizing that timely information is crucial for effective investigations.
