A Russian Antonov-26 military transport aircraft has crashed over the Crimean Peninsula, resulting in the death of all 29 people on board, according to Russian authorities.
The aircraft reportedly lost contact around 6:00 p.m. Moscow time near the village of Kuibyshevo in the Bakhchysaray district, as confirmed by Russia’s Defence Ministry through the state news agency.
Officials disclosed that those on board included both crew members and passengers, all of whom were confirmed dead after search and rescue teams located the crash site.
Russia’s Investigative Committee has since launched a probe into the incident, focusing on possible violations of flight safety regulations.
Preliminary findings suggest there was no evidence of external interference or attack on the aircraft, raising the likelihood of a technical fault as the cause of the crash.
Emergency responders were able to reach the crash site and verify the fatalities shortly after the incident.
The Crimean Peninsula, where the crash occurred, has been under Russian administration since its annexation from Ukraine in 2014.
