A pressure group within the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, known as the Reset Group of Osun PDP, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the party’s national leadership to urgently intervene to prevent what it described as the further collapse of the party’s structure in the state.
In a letter addressed to the chairman of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, Abdulrahaman Mohammed, and Wike, the group warned that the current crisis within the Osun chapter could weaken the party’s political relevance if not immediately addressed.
The letter, signed by the President and Secretary of the group, Akinwale Oyetunde and Adeyeye Olugbenga, alleged that the actions of the Osun PDP leadership led by Sunday Bisi were undermining the party and pushing members toward other political platforms.
According to the group, the crisis deepened after the state executives participated in the Ibadan convention, which was later nullified by the Court of Appeal of Nigeria.
The group further accused the State Working Committee of openly supporting Ademola Adeleke, who is contesting under the platform of the Accord Party in the August 15 election, without the approval of the party’s National Working Committee.
It alleged that the state leadership had directed PDP members to register with the Accord Party and had perfected plans to prevent PDP members from contesting under the party’s platform in the state.
The group also claimed that these actions were carried out in collaboration with some senior members of the party’s National Working Committee loyal to Wike.
Warning that the development could weaken the party ahead of future elections, the Reset Group urged the PDP national leadership to dissolve the current Osun State executives and appoint a caretaker committee that would allow aspirants to freely contest elective offices ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The crisis in the Osun PDP has deepened in recent months, with two rival groups laying claim to the party’s leadership in the state.
Earlier, the faction of the PDP national leadership loyal to Seyi Makinde announced the dissolution of the Osun PDP State Working Committee led by Bisi and replaced it with a caretaker committee headed by Tunde Tijani.
However, the dissolved committee rejected the decision, insisting that no external pressure or intimidation could invalidate what it described as a structure that derived its legitimacy from due process and the collective will of PDP members in Osun State.
The committee also urged party members to remain calm, vigilant and focused amid the ongoing leadership dispute.
