Iran has dismissed claims that it is holding negotiations with the United States to end the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, insisting it has no interest in engaging Washington in talks.
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, said Tehran would not enter discussions with the United States after accusing it of launching attacks while diplomatic engagements were still ongoing.
“We are stable and strong enough. We are only defending our people,” Araghchi said during an interview on the television programme Face The Nation on CBS.
He added that Iran no longer sees any justification for dialogue with Washington.
“We don’t see any reason why we should talk with Americans, because we were talking with them when they decided to attack us. There is no good experience talking with Americans,” he stated.
The comments came shortly after former US President Donald Trump told reporters that Washington was already engaged in discussions with Iran, although he suggested Tehran was not yet ready to finalise a deal to end the fighting.
“Yes, we’re talking to them,” Trump said while speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One. “But I don’t think they’re ready. But they are getting pretty close.”
The conflict, which has drawn in Israel and heightened tensions across the Middle East, has now entered its third week, raising fears of broader regional instability and potential disruptions to global markets.
