A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Usman Okai, has urged prominent opposition figures, including Governor Seyi Makinde (Oyo State) and Governor Bala Mohammed (Bauchi State), to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the ADC ahead of forthcoming ward congresses.
Okai made the appeal on Monday in Abuja, citing ongoing legal disputes surrounding the PDP’s national convention in Ibadan (November 15–16, 2025). The Court of Appeal recently upheld an injunction restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising the outcome of the convention, leaving the party in leadership limbo.
Okai described the situation as a major political risk for PDP members with 2027 election ambitions, warning that any candidates produced under the Ibadan convention could be disqualified if the Supreme Court eventually nullifies the process.
“Staying in the PDP is a risk no serious politician should take. I call on Governor Makinde, Governor Bala Mohammed, and others to join the ADC,” he said.
He also encouraged grassroots supporters to register with the ADC ahead of the direct primaries, saying it is the best path to building a viable alternative platform for progressive politics.
“If we are to rescue the country, we must register now and move as a united front,” Okai added.
