A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Taminu Turaki has directed its legal team to file an appeal at the Supreme Court of Nigeria following Monday’s judgment by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
The appellate court had upheld an earlier ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja which invalidated the PDP national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025.
Appeal Court Ruling
Delivering the judgment, Uchechukwu Onyemenam ruled that the Turaki-led faction failed to comply with constitutional requirements necessary to conduct a valid national convention.
The court consequently upheld the lower court’s decision that restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising the outcome of the convention.
PDP Faction Reacts
Reacting to the judgment, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said the legal battle was far from over.
According to him, the faction has instructed its lawyers to immediately challenge the ruling at the Supreme Court, describing the apex court as the appropriate authority to deliver a final decision on the matter.
“The operationalisation of this judgment will work untold hardship on our members. To avert this, we have instructed our lawyers to immediately appeal to the Supreme Court,” the statement said.
Ememobong added that the faction is consulting with key organs of the party to determine the next steps while awaiting the Supreme Court’s intervention.
Call for Unity
He also urged PDP supporters and members to remain steadfast and united, expressing confidence that the dispute would eventually be resolved.
“Stand firm, trusting that soon this battle will be over and we shall be more than conquerors,” he said.
The outcome of the case at the Supreme Court is expected to determine the legal status of the controversial PDP national convention and could significantly influence the party’s internal leadership structure ahead of future elections.
