Adamu Atiku Abubakar, the first son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Adamu, who previously served as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development in Adamawa State, made his decision known in a resignation letter addressed to the PDP chairman of Jada 1 Ward.
In the letter dated March 4, the former commissioner stated that his resignation from the party takes immediate effect.
“I hereby formally resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Jada 1 Ward with immediate effect,” he wrote.
Adamu expressed appreciation to the ward leadership and party members for their support during his time in the PDP. He also requested that the ward chairman treat the letter as official notice of his resignation and communicate the development to the appropriate authorities within the party.
His exit from the PDP comes shortly after he stepped down from his role as commissioner in Adamawa State.
The development also follows the defection of the state governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Political observers in Adamawa suggest that Adamu may soon align with his father in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
