The All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated the Media and Publicity Subcommittee for its 2026 National Convention, charging members with ensuring effective communication and transparent dissemination of information ahead of the party’s major gathering.
Speaking during the inauguration on Monday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation and Co-Chairman of the committee, Mohammed Idris, described the convention as a significant milestone for the ruling party.
Idris, who spoke virtually from the United Kingdom, said the convention provides an opportunity for the party to strengthen internal democracy and reaffirm its commitment to national development.
“As you are all aware, this convention is a significant milestone in the life of our great party as we continue to strengthen internal democracy and consolidate our vision for a a united, prosperous, and progressive Nigeria,” he said.
The minister noted that the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu is implementing reforms aimed at repositioning the country for sustainable growth and long-term development.
He added that the ruling party remains committed to supporting the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that the upcoming convention would further demonstrate the party’s unity and discipline.
“As a party, the APC remains committed to advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President, and this forthcoming convention provides another opportunity to demonstrate our unity, discipline, and shared commitment to national progress,” Idris said.
According to the minister, the committee’s responsibility is strategic in shaping public understanding of the convention and its outcomes.
“The responsibility entrusted to this committee is therefore both strategic and vital. In today’s fast-paced information environment, the success of any major political event depends greatly on how effectively its message is communicated to the public,” he added.
He explained that the committee’s mandate goes beyond publicity to include accurate information dissemination, transparency, media coordination, and projecting the convention’s activities locally and internationally.
The responsibilities assigned to the committee include content creation, media relations, media planning and buying, liaison with other sub-committees on media-related engagements, report writing and documentation, media monitoring and evaluation, and coordination of all media activities for the convention.
Encouraging members to carry out their duties diligently, Idris urged them to demonstrate professionalism and creativity in executing their assignment.
“I therefore encourage members to approach this assignment with utmost professionalism, creativity, and a strong sense of duty. By leveraging media platforms within our reach, we must ensure that the convention is widely and positively covered, while upholding the highest standards of credibility and integrity,” he said.
He congratulated members on their appointment and expressed confidence in their ability to deliver a successful convention.
“On behalf of the leadership of the APC, I congratulate all members of this committee on your well-deserved appointment. I am confident that your collective experience and expertise will contribute greatly to the success of the 2026 APC National Convention,” he said.
The minister subsequently declared the committee formally inaugurated.
The 2026 APC National Convention is scheduled to hold March 25–28, 2026.
Earlier, in December 2025, the APC released a comprehensive timetable for its nationwide ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses, culminating in the national convention.
According to the schedule signed by the party’s National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, the activities are being conducted in line with provisions of Articles 11 and 17 of the APC Constitution, aimed at electing party officials at all levels.
