Veteran filmmaker and CEO of Wale Adenuga Productions, Wale Adenuga, has refuted claims by actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, popularly known as Papa Ajasco, that he is financially struggling.
Ayoyinka sparked debate online after alleging hardships despite his long-standing role in the iconic TV series Papa Ajasco and Company. In response, Adenuga described the narrative as “false and misleading” and clarified the actor’s longstanding professional relationship with the production company.
“My first impression when I saw the trending video was that he was leveraging the Papa Ajasco brand publicly, which seems to be working for him,” Adenuga said, acknowledging Ayoyinka as a versatile actor closely aligned with the character he created in 1976.
Addressing concerns of neglect, Adenuga highlighted the company’s support over the years, noting that Ayoyinka has received cars, housing assistance, and opportunities for other paid work. He emphasized that restrictions on using the Papa Ajasco brand for personal projects were necessary to protect its integrity, but actors were free to pursue other engagements.
“Abiodun has not been barred from adverts or other jobs, provided official approval is sought from WAP. The organisation meets industry-standard payments and fulfills all financial obligations,” Adenuga stated.
He also questioned Ayoyinka’s claim of financial difficulties, citing his decades-long civil service career with the Lagos State Government, gratuities, and other investments. Adenuga reaffirmed that the company maintains positive professional relationships with all cast members and thanked the public for its concern.
