A tragic accident has claimed the life of a dispatch rider after a diesel tanker rammed into his motorcycle under the Cele Bridge axis of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway in Lagos.
The crash, which occurred on Wednesday along the busy corridor, involved a fully loaded HOWO tanker. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle struck the motorcyclist with great force, trapping him beneath and killing him instantly.
Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority swiftly moved to the scene, cordoning off the area with safety cones and caution tape to prevent further accidents.
The tanker was impounded, but the driver reportedly fled immediately after the incident.
Operatives from the Ijesha Police Division later arrived to take charge of the situation. The remains of the victim, along with the damaged motorcycle and tanker, were handed over to the police, while the body was deposited at a morgue in Yaba.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare Oki, described the incident as tragic and extended condolences to the victim’s family.
He called for a thorough investigation and urged authorities to ensure the fleeing driver is apprehended and brought to justice.
