The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Chukwudalu Ezeani, for allegedly killing his cousin, Chinedu Ezeani, and concealing the crime for eight months in Afube village, Amichi, in Nnewi South Local Government Area.
The suspect was said to have committed the act on August 1, 2025, at his residence, where he reportedly killed the victim and buried the body in a shallow grave within his compound.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday.
According to him, the case was first reported at Amichi Police Station as a missing person case but was later reopened following credible intelligence.
Operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka subsequently arrested the suspect. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the crime and led investigators to the burial site.
The decomposed remains were exhumed from the shallow grave within his compound.
Police authorities stated that the remains have been deposited for forensic examination, while the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The command reiterated its commitment to justice and urged members of the public to report suspicious activities promptly.
