Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled a coordinated attack by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters in Mallam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State, killing more than 60 insurgents.
According to the Nigerian Army, the attack occurred around 12:50 a.m. on Wednesday when the terrorists advanced on foot from the Duguri area, reportedly supported by armed drones, in an attempt to breach the 68 Battalion’s defensive position.
The army said the movement of the attackers was quickly detected, prompting a swift and coordinated response from ground forces, backed by air support. The troops engaged the insurgents with heavy firepower, leading to significant casualties, including the elimination of some key commanders.
The intensity of the operation forced the remaining fighters to retreat in disarray towards the Arege area. Security forces have since launched follow-up operations, deploying surveillance and reconnaissance assets to track and prevent the regrouping of fleeing insurgents.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist groups and ensuring the safety of residents, noting that the latest attack is part of a series of recent assaults on military formations in Borno State.
