Court of Appeal Judges’ Quarters
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s judiciary, describing investment in judicial infrastructure as a critical pillar of democratic governance and the rule of law.
The President made this known on Tuesday during the commissioning of the newly completed 10-unit Court of Appeal Judges’ Quarters in Katampe District, Abuja. The project is one of several judicial infrastructure initiatives unveiled to commemorate the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration.
Represented by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), President Tinubu said the housing project goes beyond the construction of physical buildings, emphasizing that it reflects the Federal Government’s dedication to improving the welfare and independence of judicial officers.
“We gather on this important occasion for the commissioning of the 10-unit Court of Appeal Judges’ Quarters here in Katampe. This event is part of a series of judicial infrastructure projects being commissioned over a three-week period to commemorate the third anniversary of this administration,” he stated.
According to the President, the project was funded as a special intervention by the Federal Government and is separate from the judiciary’s statutory budget allocations, which he noted have also increased significantly in recent years.
“Today’s event is much more than the unveiling of physical infrastructure; it is a tangible demonstration of the Federal Government’s enduring commitment to the welfare, independence, efficiency and dignity of the judiciary,” Tinubu said.
He stressed that judicial independence cannot thrive without adequate support systems, adding that judges require secure accommodation and conducive environments to effectively discharge their duties.
“The welfare of judicial officers is a strategic investment in the rule of law. When judges are provided with secure accommodation and conducive working environments, the entire nation benefits,” he added.
President Tinubu further disclosed that more land has been allocated for future judicial projects, including facilities for the National Industrial Court, Federal High Court, Code of Conduct Bureau, and the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
“With all these developments, this area could easily be declared the Judiciary Boulevard,” he remarked.
The President also praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for the speedy execution of the project.
“I wish to commend my dependable, hardworking and diligent Minister of the FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike, and his team for the efficiency with which this directive was implemented,” he said.
In her remarks, President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, described the quarters as a significant milestone, noting that secure housing helps protect judicial officers from undue influence and strengthens the integrity of the justice system.
The commissioning comes barely a day after the inauguration of the new Court of Appeal complex in Abuja, further highlighting the administration’s renewed focus on institutional reforms and judicial development.
