The Nigerian Army has successfully rescued 19 kidnapped residents and neutralised one bandit during a coordinated operation in Gidan Dogo, Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to a statement on Saturday by Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Olawuyi Itunuoluwa, the operation followed credible intelligence on the location of terrorists responsible for the recent abduction of residents in the Byazhin area.
Troops from the 7 Guards Battalion, Guards Brigade, working alongside the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes, engaged the kidnappers in a firefight. One bandit was neutralised, while others reportedly fled with gunshot injuries.
The search also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and a locally fabricated firearm.
Brigadier General Adebisi Onasanya, Commander of the Guards Brigade, praised the troops and collaborating security agencies for their bravery and professionalism, reiterating the Brigade’s commitment to protecting residents of the FCT and securing Abuja.
The Army confirmed that operations would continue in the area to prevent further criminal activities and intensify efforts to eliminate terrorism, kidnapping, and other crimes in the territory.
