Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly paraded about 300 villagers abducted during a recent attack on Ngoshe, in Gwoza Local Government Area.
The insurgents displayed the captives in a viral video that surfaced on social media on Saturday. The footage was shared on X by a user identified as OurFaveOnlineDoc, who claimed the clip was released by the militants after the raid on the community.
According to reports, the attack occurred around midnight on Wednesday, forcing thousands of residents to flee to the nearby Pulka community. Many displaced residents are said to be sleeping on roads and inside school buildings after escaping the violence.
Eyewitnesses said the assault lasted several hours and caused widespread panic and destruction before the Nigerian Army deployed air support under Operation Hadin Kai to repel the attackers and disperse them into nearby forests.
In the 30-second video, armed men believed to be insurgents were seen carrying rocket-propelled grenades and other sophisticated weapons while waving the group’s black flag. Some fighters also appeared to be dressed in Nigerian military uniforms as they escorted their leader past villagers seated on the ground.
The abducted villagers were shown sitting along a path while the militants observed one of the Islamic daily prayers.
Meanwhile, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians not to give in to fear despite renewed terror attacks in parts of the country.
Speaking during an interfaith breaking of the fast with members of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies at the State House Abuja, the president said the government was committed to defeating terrorism and restoring stability.
Tinubu expressed confidence that Nigeria would ultimately overcome groups seeking to undermine the nation’s peace and unity.
