The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced plans to provide free train services for indigenes of Osun State as part of preparations for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
In a statement released on Wednesday, NRC spokesperson Calistus Unyimadu disclosed that the initiative, known as the “Imole Special Train,” is being organised in collaboration with the Osun State Government.
The service will run along the narrow-gauge route from Iddo Station in Lagos to Osogbo, allowing Osun indigenes to travel at no cost under the state’s Sallah programme. While the Osun Government is fully funding the initiative, the NRC will handle operations, including providing trains and technical support.
To accommodate increased travel demand during the festive period, the corporation also announced additional train services across key routes. The Lagos-Ibadan corridor will operate three trips on March 19, while the Abuja-Kaduna route will run two trips on the same day and increase to three daily trips between March 20 and 23.
Meanwhile, the Warri-Itakpe service will maintain its regular three-times-weekly schedule, and the Port Harcourt-Aba route will continue normal operations throughout the celebrations.
The NRC assured passengers of safe and efficient services and encouraged Nigerians to take advantage of rail transport during the festive season.
