The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three individuals in connection with the alleged possession and distribution of human body parts in Ibadan.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, revealing that the suspects were linked to activities involving suspected human remains.
Arrest Made During Routine Operation
According to the police, the arrest was made during a routine stop-and-search operation in the Adekile area of Agugu. Officers on patrol intercepted an unregistered motorcycle and carried out a search on the passenger.
During the inspection, security operatives reportedly discovered a package containing what was suspected to be human flesh, believed to be intestines. The rider was immediately apprehended and taken into custody for questioning.
Suspects Confess, Others Arrested
The primary suspect, identified as Oyategbe Joseph, allegedly confessed during interrogation that he obtained the items from an unidentified source in the Oritaperin area. He further revealed that he had sold the suspected human parts to two other individuals.
Acting on the information, police operatives arrested two additional suspects—Alfa Onaolapo Taiwo and Pastor Ayodele Taiwo—who reportedly admitted to purchasing the items.
Case Transferred for Further Investigation
Following the arrests, the Commissioner of Police ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation. Authorities have assured that the suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law once investigations are concluded.
The police also called on residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining public safety and security.
