A dark cloud has fallen over the nation following the tragic confirmation of the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar. The former Director of Defence Information tragically passed away while being held captive by armed bandits.
According to an official statement by Nasir Muazu, the Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, the retired general succumbed to complications from diabetes and hypertension during his time in captivity. The news comes despite tireless, coordinated rescue efforts by both the Katsina State government and federal security forces to bring him home safely.
Reacting to the heartbreaking news, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda described this as a “dark moment” for Nigeria. He emphasized that this tragedy is a stark, painful reminder of the urgent need for a more aggressive, coordinated crackdown on insecurity across the country.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this incredibly difficult time. May the soul of the departed Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar rest in eternal peace,” the government statement read.
Governor Radda extended his deepest condolences to the Abubakar family, reaffirming that the government will not back down. He vowed that the state will work hand-in-hand with federal authorities to hunt down the perpetrators and ensure justice is served, reiterating a firm resolve to finally rid Katsina State of banditry.
