A major breakthrough has emerged in the tragic killing of retired Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Mrs. Olakitan Oyesiku, fondly known as Aunty Kitan, as the Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects allegedly involved in the gruesome crime.
The respected broadcaster and her 38-year-old security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, were found murdered at her residence in the Kobape area of Abeokuta last weekend, a development that sent shockwaves across Ogun State and beyond.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, revealed that intensive investigations, intelligence gathering, and technical tracking operations led to the arrest of the suspects identified as Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36.
According to the police, the principal suspect, Sodeinde, previously worked as a security guard for the late broadcaster and allegedly recruited the other suspects to carry out the attack.
The Commissioner disclosed that detectives recovered the deceased’s missing Lexus RX 330 and uncovered critical evidence that helped crack the case. Among the evidence was a handwritten note allegedly left behind by the attackers, which was subjected to forensic analysis.
CP Ojajuni stated, “Acting on credible intelligence and technical tracking analysis, operatives successfully recovered the missing vehicle and subsequently identified those responsible for the crime.”
Further investigations led to the arrest of Sodeinde at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was reportedly working as a labourer. The remaining suspects were later apprehended through follow-up operations.
In a shocking revelation, the police said the principal suspect confessed during interrogation and claimed that the attack was intended to “teach her a lesson” over grievances he allegedly held against the deceased from his time in her employment.
Investigators also recovered several items believed to be connected to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank, and other exhibits.
While assuring the public of a thorough prosecution process, the police emphasized that all suspects remain entitled to due process under the law. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, Wale Olarewaju, commended the police for swiftly unraveling the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
As investigations continue, many Nigerians await justice for the late broadcaster and her security guard whose lives were cut short in a heartbreaking act of violence.
