In a major breakthrough against kidnapping in Plateau State, troops of Operation Enduring Peace have successfully rescued eight victims during a coordinated military operation in Pandam Forest, Qua’an Pan Local Government Area.
The early morning rescue mission has been praised by residents, who described it as a significant step toward improving security in communities affected by criminal activities.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Captain Chinonso Oteh, the operation was carried out by Sector 9 troops stationed in Namu Town after security operatives received credible intelligence about the presence of kidnappers in the forest.
Captain Oteh said the operation commenced at about 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, demonstrating the military’s resolve to protect lives and restore peace across the region.
“The operation, conducted at approximately 3:00 a.m. following credible intelligence regarding the presence of kidnappers in the forest, highlights the troops’ unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security as well as the protection of citizens,” he stated.
During the raid, troops reportedly exchanged gunfire with the suspected kidnappers, who attempted to escape under the cover of darkness. Amid the confrontation, three victims managed to break free from their captors.
A thorough search of the surrounding forest by the soldiers later resulted in the rescue of five additional victims, bringing the total number of rescued persons to eight.
According to the military, all the victims are safe and receiving the necessary attention before being reunited with their families.
“The rescued victims are currently in safe condition and efforts are ongoing to unite them with their respective families,” Captain Oteh added.
The successful operation has drawn commendation from members of the local community, many of whom pledged to continue supporting security agencies with credible information.
The military also disclosed that troops are currently pursuing the fleeing kidnappers, with efforts underway to arrest or neutralize those responsible for the abductions.
While appreciating the cooperation of residents, the Joint Task Force urged the public to sustain its collaboration with security agencies.
“Operation Enduring Peace appreciates the citizens for their cooperation and calls for more support in disrupting criminal elements and restoring the desired peace,” the statement concluded.
The latest operation underscores the growing importance of intelligence-driven security missions and community partnership in tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes across Plateau State and the wider Middle Belt region.
