Korede Fasoyin, the son of veteran gospel singer Deborah Fasoyin, widely known for the Yoruba gospel song “Odun n Lo Sopin,” has refuted viral claims circulating online that his mother has passed away.
Speaking with The PUNCH on Monday, Korede described the reports as false, stressing that the elderly gospel singer is alive and well.
The rumour had spread rapidly across social media, with several posts displaying Mama Fasoyin’s photograph accompanied by “RIP” captions, while many users also shared condolence messages believing the reports to be true.
Reacting to the situation, Korede explained that the family was already preparing a video message in which the veteran singer would personally address the public and reassure her supporters.
“My mother is alive. The news of her death is fake. We are already working on a video for her to speak,” he said.
He further revealed that the family began receiving numerous calls from both within Nigeria and abroad shortly after the rumour surfaced online.
“I started receiving calls from outside Nigeria and within Nigeria since midnight, asking if she was dead. I don’t know the mischievous person who posted that without verifying,” he added.
Mama Fasoyin recently marked her 86th birthday on March 1, 2026. She remains a highly respected gospel singer within the Christ Apostolic Church and beyond, with her famous Yoruba gospel song “Odun n Lo Sopin” continuing to resonate with generations of church music lovers.
