An overnight Iranian missile barrage has killed two people near Tel Aviv, Israeli emergency officials confirmed on Wednesday, as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate.
The attack struck multiple locations in central Israel, setting off air raid sirens across the region following a fresh wave of Israeli strikes in Iran and Lebanon. Authorities said the latest fatalities bring the total number of people killed in Iran-linked missile attacks on Israel since late last month to 14.
According to police, a residential building in Ramat Gan, near Tel Aviv, was hit by a cluster munition, leading to the deaths of an elderly couple who were unable to reach a safe room in time. Cluster weapons are known to disperse smaller explosives over a wide area, increasing the scale of destruction.
Emergency responders reported widespread damage at the scene, with shattered buildings, burning vehicles, and debris scattered across affected areas. In nearby Bnei Brak, another individual sustained minor injuries from shrapnel.
The impact also affected transportation, as debris damaged infrastructure at a major train station in Tel Aviv, forcing a temporary suspension of rail services nationwide. Operations were later partially restored.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said the strike was carried out in retaliation for the killing of its security chief, Ali Larijani, by Israeli forces. Israel had earlier confirmed the targeted killing, which Tehran has since acknowledged.
The Israeli military said additional missile launches were detected after the initial barrage, triggering alerts across central and southern parts of the country. Rescue teams and bomb disposal units were deployed to multiple sites to manage the aftermath.
The latest exchange highlights the deepening conflict between Iran and Israel, raising fears of further escalation across the region.
