HALLELUYAH HOSTEL, IREE OSUN STATE
A devastating fire outbreak occurred on Thursday evening, May 28, 2026, at Hallelujah Hostel located around Deeper Life Junction in Iree, Osun State, leaving many students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, counting heavy losses.
The hostel, where several students of Osun State Polytechnic lives in, reportedly caught fire a few minutes after 7:00 p.m., causing panic among residents and people within the area.
According to an eyewitness who spoke anonymously with our reporter, Moyinoluwa Oyetunji, the fire incident started when a female student of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, attempted to cook with an electric hot plate connected to a socket inside her room.
The eyewitness explained that the socket suddenly sparked and caught fire, forcing the student to run outside for help from neighboring students. Unfortunately, before help could arrive, the fire had already spread rapidly across the first building of the storey hostel.
Students of Osun State Polytechnic living in the hostel were seen running helter-skelter for safety as thick smoke and flames engulfed parts of the building. While some students managed to rescue a few valuable belongings, many others lost properties worth huge amounts to the inferno.
The witness further revealed that several students residing in the hostel were not around during the incident, as many had travelled home to celebrate the Ileya Festival with their families.
Residents and students also expressed concerns over the delayed response from firefighters, alleging that emergency responders arrived at the scene nearly 50 minutes after the fire outbreak began.
Fortunately, no life was lost and no injuries were recorded during the incident. However, many students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, suffered severe property losses as a result of the fire.
As of the time of filing this report, the management of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, had not released any official statement concerning the incident. Meanwhile, affected students are hoping for support and assistance from the institution’s management and well-meaning individuals.
