The campaign organisation of Iyiola Omisore has confirmed that the former lawmaker has withdrawn a lawsuit he earlier filed over the disqualification of several governorship aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the party’s primary election in Osun State.
In a statement issued in Osogbo on Thursday, the campaign’s Director-General, Ajibola Famurewa, explained that the suit—marked FHC/OS/CS/261/2025 – Senator Iyiola Omisore v. APC & ANR—was originally filed after seven out of eight aspirants were reportedly disqualified by the party’s screening committee.
According to the statement, the legal action was intended to challenge the legality of the panel’s decision, which the campaign believed violated provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.
The case resurfaced in public discussions after reports circulated that Omisore had sued both the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), raising concerns within the party as political activities intensified ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
In the originating summons dated December 9, 2025, Omisore asked the Federal High Court of Nigeria sitting in Osogbo to determine whether the APC had the authority to impose additional qualification or disqualification criteria beyond what is provided in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999.
He sought a declaration that his disqualification from the governorship primary was invalid, arguing that he had met the constitutional requirements outlined in Sections 177 and 182 of the constitution.
The former senator also requested that the court nullify the alleged disqualification and compel the APC to allow him to participate in the primary election. In addition, he asked the court to restrain INEC from recognising any primary conducted by the party to produce its governorship candidate.
The suit, filed by his counsel Kolawole Salami before Justice Adefunmilola Demi-Ajayi, became widely known after a court schedule listing matters for March 2 circulated online.
However, the campaign organisation disclosed that the case was later discontinued following the intervention of prominent APC leaders, including Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Bisi Akande.
According to the statement, the intervention led Omisore to publicly affirm his decision to respect the party’s position and align with its leadership.
The campaign organisation also accused some individuals of spreading misleading information to cause confusion within the party. It urged APC members and the public to ignore claims suggesting the suit is still active while calling for unity ahead of the governorship election.
