Najeem Salaam Rejects Withdrawal Rumours in Osun Race

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Osun State, Najeem Salaam, has dismissed speculation that he may step down from the race or align with another candidate ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Speaking during the unveiling of his manifesto in Osogbo, the former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly declared that he remains fully committed to contesting the election and is focused on securing victory at the polls.

Salaam used the occasion to launch his policy blueprint, titled My 10-Point Development Agenda, which outlines his vision for transforming Osun State through strategic investments in key sectors of the economy.

Addressing supporters and stakeholders, the ADC candidate emphasized that his campaign would be driven by ideas and solutions rather than political attacks. He said he had no intention of engaging in name-calling or blaming previous administrations, noting that every government had made contributions to the state’s development.

However, he maintained that his experience, education, and understanding of governance would enable him to build on existing achievements and address lingering challenges facing the state.

“I am in the race to win,” Salaam declared. “I am well-educated, having attained the doctoral level. I have reviewed the achievements of successive administrations and identified the gaps. My mission is to fill those gaps.”

To illustrate some of the challenges requiring urgent attention, Salaam cited a school in his Ejigbo constituency where more than 500 students are reportedly being taught by only six teachers. According to him, such issues require practical intervention rather than political rhetoric.

The ADC flag bearer’s development agenda focuses on workers’ welfare, accountable governance, security, agriculture, education, infrastructure development, electricity supply, investment promotion, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises.

He described these sectors as critical pillars for economic growth and sustainable development, stressing that his administration would prioritize policies capable of improving living standards across the state.

“The time has come to rise together and build a future of greatness, opportunity, peace, and prosperity,” he said.

According to Salaam, Osun is at a defining moment in its history, and the decisions made by voters in the coming election will shape the future of generations to come.

He pledged to build a state where workers and pensioners receive the respect and support they deserve, farmers are empowered to boost food production and economic growth, and young people have access to employment opportunities and skills development programmes.

His vision also includes improved access to quality healthcare and education, a business-friendly environment capable of attracting investors, and a government anchored on transparency, accountability, and integrity.

The unveiling of Salaam’s manifesto adds momentum to the campaign season as political parties intensify efforts to win the support of voters ahead of the governorship election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, recently launched his PROSPER Agenda, which focuses on economic expansion, job creation, education, and security. Meanwhile, Governor Ademola Adeleke continues to promote his administration’s Five-Point Action Plan as he seeks to consolidate support across the state.

With electioneering activities gathering pace, Salaam’s decision to reject withdrawal rumours and present a detailed policy agenda underscores his determination to remain a major contender in the race for Osun’s highest office.
