The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Mohammed Ibrahim, popularly known as Manga, over the alleged beheading of a commercial motorcyclist and theft of his motorcycle along the Gidan-Kwano/Maikunkele Road.
The suspect was arrested on October 1, 2026, by operatives of the Maikunkele Police Division, working alongside personnel of the Violent Crime Response Unit.
The police disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on September 30, when Ibrahim allegedly hired the services of Shehu Mohammed, a 23-year-old commercial motorcyclist from Pai village in Bosso Local Government Area, to convey him from Beji to Garatu village.
The suspect reportedly told the rider he intended to visit friends in Garatu.
However, police investigations allegedly revealed that, while returning from Garatu around midnight, Ibrahim conspired with two accomplices, identified as Risku and another individual, to attack the motorcyclist.
The victim was allegedly beheaded, and his newly acquired Bajaj motorcycle was stolen.
The police said the suspect reportedly confessed to his involvement during interrogation. A cutlass and the stolen motorcycle were also recovered from him.
Abiodun confirmed that the suspect remained in police custody at the Violent Crime Response Unit as investigations continued to apprehend the two fleeing accomplices.
He added that Ibrahim would be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction after the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Niger State, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating violent crime and bringing offenders to justice.
The commissioner also urged residents to provide “credible information” to security agencies to support crime prevention and the arrest of suspects.
The allegations against Ibrahim remain subject to judicial proceedings.
