Political tension is beginning to emerge within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State as a senatorial aspirant, Mr. Sola Ajimati, has raised concerns over what he described as the growing exclusion of important stakeholders from key party decisions.
Ajimati expressed his concerns in a letter addressed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, where he acknowledged the governor’s leadership efforts and contributions to the development of the state. However, he warned that the party’s future success could be threatened if inclusiveness and consultation are not strengthened.
“I write with profound respect and sincere appreciation for your leadership, vision, and continued service to Kwara and our great party, the APC,” Ajimati stated, while praising the governor’s administration.
Despite his commendation, the aspirant noted that recent developments within the party, particularly the emergence of Yakubu Danladi-Salihu as the APC governorship candidate, have created concerns among some members and stakeholders.
“As our great party looks ahead to future electoral cycles, including governorship and national elections, there is increasing concern regarding perceived exclusion from critical party decision-making processes,” he said.
Ajimati stressed that the achievements recorded under Governor AbdulRazaq’s leadership could only be sustained through unity, open communication, and wider participation among party members. According to him, decisions taken at this stage would have long-term consequences for the APC’s strength and political future in Kwara State.
He pointed to the recent re-election of Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State as an example of how inclusive leadership can strengthen political structures. According to Ajimati, Oyebanji’s ability to engage party leaders, former governors, grassroots supporters, and even opposing voices helped transform differences into unity.
“His leadership approach, characterized by continuous dialogue with former governors, party leaders, grassroots mobilisers, youth groups, and even dissenting voices, transformed political diversity into a source of strength and stability,” he explained.
However, Ajimati also referenced the political challenges experienced by former Osun State Governor Alhaji Isiaka Oyetola and former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, arguing that unresolved internal disagreements can weaken political platforms.
“The lesson is therefore clear: enduring political success is anchored on consultation, inclusion, and consensus-building,” he added.
To resolve the situation, Ajimati urged Governor AbdulRazaq to organise a broad stakeholders’ meeting and create an independent reconciliation committee to address grievances within the party.
He also called on the APC national leadership to investigate alleged irregularities surrounding the Kwara South Senatorial Primary Election held on May 18, 2026.
According to him, Kwara APC must remain united, especially at a time when security concerns and political activities are increasing across the state.
“This is a defining moment for our party in Kwara. With timely intervention, inclusive leadership, and sincere engagement, the APC can emerge stronger, more united, and better positioned for enduring electoral success,” Ajimati concluded.
Political observers believe the development highlights the importance of internal democracy and stakeholder engagement as parties prepare for future elections.
