Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians to continue to keep hope alive in the country as Nigeria commemorates its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Akpabio made the call in a goodwill message issued to mark the anniversary, while congratulating Nigerians and calling for greater love, unity and faith in the nation’s future.
The Senate President described Nigeria as “our destiny, our duty, our future,” noting that the country’s journey since independence had been characterised by both achievements and challenges.
According to him, Nigeria had experienced “times of confidence and moments of doubt,” but Nigerians had continued to work, serve, create opportunities and maintain faith in the country despite the difficulties encountered over the years.
Akpabio highlighted the contributions of ordinary Nigerians to national development, noting that the strength of the country could be seen in the efforts of farmers, teachers, entrepreneurs and young people who continued to pursue their aspirations.
He said, “Nigeria lives in the farmer tending the soil, the teacher shaping a mind, the entrepreneur creating opportunity and the young person daring to dream.”
The Senate President also said the National Assembly would continue to support efforts aimed at strengthening the nation and improving the lives of citizens under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He said the 10th National Assembly would remain supportive of initiatives directed at national development, while encouraging Nigerians to continue believing in the future of the country.
Akpabio further expressed hope that the Independence anniversary would renew Nigerians’ commitment to serving the country with integrity, compassion and devotion.
He congratulated President Tinubu and Nigerians at home and abroad, describing the anniversary as a celebration of Nigeria’s nationhood and the enduring promise of the country.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s independence journey, Akpabio recalled that 66 years ago, the national flag was raised to symbolise the birth of an independent nation and the hopes of millions for freedom, self-government and the opportunity to shape their collective destiny.
He urged Nigerians to continue working together for the progress of the country, while praying for divine guidance for the nation’s leaders and citizens.
Concluding his message, Akpabio prayed for the wellbeing of Nigerians and the continued preservation of the country, saying, “May God bless every Nigerian home, guide our leaders, and preserve the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
