President Bola Tinubu has hinted that he may not attend campaign rallies in every state ahead of the 2027 presidential election, citing the need to prioritise governance and Nigeria’s economic challenges.

Tinubu made this known on Wednesday during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The President said he agreed with suggestions that campaign activities should not distract him from his responsibilities as the nation’s leader.

“You’ve warned me not to allow the rigour of the campaign to distract me from governance, I hear you. I am in full agreement with your decision. Nigeria needs more attention now,” he said.

Tinubu further indicated that he might not accompany party officials to campaign rallies across the country, suggesting that other members of the campaign council would handle some engagements.

“You will excuse me from going everywhere with you. We have bills to pay. The American creditors cannot wait,” the President stated.

His remarks highlight the administration’s emphasis on governance, financial obligations and efforts to attract investment as the ruling party prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Tinubu also stressed the importance of encouraging investors to establish long-term business interests in Nigeria, expressing hope that increased investment would contribute to the country’s economic development.

“We want those investors to come in, be here to stay, to invest for the future of our children,” he said.

The inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council marks a step in the party’s preparations for the forthcoming election, with party leaders expected to coordinate mobilisation and campaign activities nationwide.

Although Tinubu’s comments suggest that his participation in rallies may be limited, he did not announce a complete withdrawal from the APC campaign.

The extent of his involvement in campaign activities across the states remains unclear.

His remarks come as political parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 elections, while the administration continues to emphasise economic management, investment attraction and its governance responsibilities.

The APC’s challenge will be to sustain nationwide campaign mobilisation while balancing the President’s stated preference to devote greater attention to governing the country.
