Donald Trump has said he feels “honoured” to be targeting Iran’s leadership amid the ongoing war between the United States, Israel, and Iran.
In a late-night post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump described Iranian leaders as “deranged scumbags” and defended the military campaign against Tehran.
“They’ve been killing innocent people all over the world for 47 years, and now I, as the 47th President of the United States of America, am killing them,” Trump wrote. “What a great honour it is to do so.”
The comments came amid reports that Iran’s longtime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several other senior figures in Tehran have been killed since the conflict began on February 28 following joint U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iranian targets.
Trump also criticised media reports questioning the success of the military campaign, insisting that the United States was making decisive gains in the conflict.
According to him, Iran’s military forces are being “decimated” while its leadership structure has been effectively dismantled.
Meanwhile, U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said the American military planned to intensify its air campaign against Iran.
Speaking during a press conference, Hegseth said Friday would see the largest volume of U.S. airstrikes so far in the war, particularly over Iranian airspace and the capital, Tehran.
The remarks signal a potential escalation in the conflict, which has already heightened geopolitical tensions and raised concerns about wider regional instability.
