Ekiti PDP Guber candidate, Wole Oluyede
As Ekiti State prepares for its highly anticipated governorship election, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Wole Oluyede, has declared that he is not backed by any political godfather, insisting that the people of Ekiti are the only force behind his political ambition.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Oluyede dismissed suggestions that influential political figures were sponsoring his campaign. Instead, he maintained that his confidence comes from the support and trust of ordinary citizens across the state.
“The truth about it, is on record. Everybody knows that the godfather I have is the people themselves,” he said.
The PDP flagbearer explained that his journey into the governorship race is driven by his long-standing commitment to the development of Ekiti State. According to him, he has consistently invested his resources, time, and energy into projects and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of residents.
Oluyede argued that his record speaks for itself and demonstrates his belief in the state’s potential for growth and transformation.
“The people have to believe in the hope that I have a record of investment in this state. I have invested my money, my time, and my energy to say things can be different,” he stated.
Beyond discussing his vision for the state, the PDP candidate also raised concerns about security and fairness ahead of the election. He alleged that some of his supporters had been arrested without clear explanations, while accusing members of the ruling party of engaging in acts of violence without facing similar consequences.
“In situations where your supporters are being arrested for reasons that you don’t know and they can’t explain, and when we have agents of the APC in my hometown attacking people with machetes and they are not arrested, then we need to question that,” Oluyede said.
His comments come at a time of heightened political activity across Ekiti State, as parties intensify their campaigns ahead of the crucial poll.
With the election drawing closer, Oluyede’s message appears focused on presenting himself as an independent candidate whose loyalty lies with the people rather than political powerbrokers. The outcome of the election will determine whether that message resonates with voters at the ballot box.
