President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji on his successful re-election, describing the outcome as a strong endorsement of continuity, stability, and people-focused leadership.
In a statement issued through his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended the people of Ekiti State for conducting themselves peacefully during the governorship election. According to Tinubu, the decision of voters to return Oyebanji to office reflects their confidence in the governor’s leadership style and developmental agenda.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate the winner of the election in the early hours of Sunday, securing what many observers have described as a historic political achievement.
President Tinubu noted that Oyebanji has become the first governor in Ekiti State’s history to win re-election and return for a second consecutive term in office.
Highlighting the governor’s first-term performance, Tinubu pointed to achievements in critical sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and rural development.
“Governor Oyebanji’s first term was marked by significant strides in infrastructure, agriculture, youth employment, education, healthcare, and rural development. The renewed mandate is therefore a clear vote of confidence in continuity, stability, and people-centred governance,” the President stated.
Tinubu also praised security agencies for ensuring a peaceful electoral process and maintaining order throughout the exercise. He urged electoral stakeholders to continue strengthening Nigeria’s democratic system through transparent and credible elections.
“We must continue to conduct peaceful, free, fair and credible elections as the nation approaches the Osun governorship election in August and the general election next year,” he said.
The President’s remarks underscore the importance of democratic stability and citizens’ participation in shaping governance through the ballot box.
With a fresh mandate secured, expectations are now high that Governor Oyebanji will consolidate on the achievements of his first term and deliver more development projects across Ekiti State.
Political observers believe the outcome of the election may also influence political calculations ahead of upcoming governorship and general elections across the country, as parties continue to test their popularity and performance before voters.
