Voting has ended across Ekiti State in the governorship election, with ballot sorting and counting now well underway. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) supervised the poll across all 16 local government areas, where residents turned out in large numbers. Voting began around 8:30 a.m. despite early arrivals at 7:00 a.m.
Security personnel were deployed to maintain order, while observers monitored proceedings. Major contenders, including incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the APC, Dare Bejide of the ADC, and Wole Oluyede of the PDP, cast their votes and commented on the process. Bejide alleged vote‑buying by APC members, while Oyebanji dismissed the claim, urging evidence. Oluyede raised concerns over BVAS glitches and voter intimidation but expressed confidence in victory.
Despite these complaints, no major security incidents have been reported.
As of 6:55 p.m. Saturday, INEC’s Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that 84.17 percent of polling unit results had been uploaded. In total, 2,058 results have been submitted out of 2,445 polling units statewide. Earlier figures had shown 869 uploads, representing 35.5 percent, with Oye LGA leading in submissions. The pace of collation has since accelerated significantly.
Over 1.02 million registered voters were expected to participate in the election. Governor Oyebanji is seeking re‑election against candidates from 13 other political parties, including the AAC, Accord, ADP, APP, Labour Party, NNPP, PRP, YPP, and ZLP.
INEC has emphasized that only official announcements from its headquarters will confirm the final outcome once collation is complete.
