The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly rejected claims by Dr. Emmanuel Agbo that he is the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election, describing him as an impostor and a “political con artist.”
The controversy emerged after a purported Certificate of Return allegedly linked to Agbo surfaced on social media, sparking confusion among party supporters and political observers.
In a statement issued by the PDP State Secretary, Comrade Dan Nyikwagh, the party dismissed the claim as false and misleading, insisting that Agbo has no mandate to represent the party in the upcoming governorship race.
According to Nyikwagh, “Emmanuel Agbo is an impostor and a political con artist peddling and sponsoring fake news for selfish and mischievous reasons.”
The party called on journalists, social media users, and members of the public to disregard any information suggesting that Agbo is the PDP’s governorship candidate.
Instead, the PDP reaffirmed that Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa (SAN) remains its duly affirmed candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Benue State. The party stated that Aondoakaa emerged through a transparent consensus process endorsed by party leaders, stakeholders, and members, with the exercise reportedly monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Nyikwagh emphasized that Aondoakaa enjoys broad support across the state and represents the collective decision of the party.
The PDP further warned against attempts to create confusion within its ranks, stressing that impersonating a party candidate is a serious offence.
“The full weight of the law will be brought to bear on anyone engaging in such criminal conduct,” the statement warned.
The party disclosed that legal and constitutional actions have already been initiated against Agbo and others allegedly involved in the impersonation.
As preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, the PDP reiterated its commitment to unity and effective leadership in Benue State. Party leaders also urged supporters to remain focused and ignore misinformation aimed at undermining the party’s credibility and internal cohesion.
